Plain English, no fine print. These terms cover any work I do for you unless we agree something different in writing.

1. Who you are working with
SwansonX Studio is operated by Sean Swanson, based in Minnesota, United States. In these terms, "I" and "SwansonX" mean SwansonX Studio, and "you" means the person or business hiring me.
2. Quotes and scope
Before any work starts, I will tell you what is included and what it costs. That agreed description is the scope. Anything outside it is new work, quoted separately — I will never do extra work and then bill you for it as a surprise. Prices shown on this site are starting points; a project with unusual requirements will be quoted individually.
3. Payment
Landing pages are paid in full up front. Websites and custom projects are 50% up front and 50% on completion, before the finished files or site go live. Payment is due within 14 days of invoice. If an invoice is more than 30 days overdue I may pause work until it is settled.
4. Revisions
A revision means changing something within the agreed scope — wording, colours, layout, swapping an image, adjusting a section. Landing pages include 2 rounds of revisions. Websites include unlimited revisions while the project is being built. What a revision is not: adding new pages or features that were not in the scope, or starting the design again from a completely new direction. Those are new work, and I will quote them before doing anything.
5. The $30/month plan
After a website launches you can optionally keep it on a $30/month plan. It covers hosting, keeping the site and its dependencies updated, and small edits at no extra charge. A small edit means things like changing text, swapping a photo, updating hours or prices, or adding a link — roughly anything that takes me under about 30 minutes. New pages, new features, or a redesign are not small edits and will be quoted separately. The plan is month to month; cancel any time and it stops at the end of the period you have paid for. There is no refund for a partial month.
6. Your admin panel
Every site I build comes with its own admin panel so you can make small edits — text, photos, prices, hours — yourself, and they go live immediately. Keep your login private; anyone with it can change your site. You are responsible for what you publish through it. If you break something with an edit, tell me and I will put it right; on the $30/month plan that is covered, otherwise I will quote it (it is almost always quick).
7. What I need from you
I need your content — text, images, logos, and access to any accounts required — and reasonably prompt feedback. Projects stall most often because content is still coming. If I do not hear from you for 30 days, I may treat the project as paused and invoice for the work completed so far.
8. Timelines
I will give you a realistic estimate before starting and tell you as early as I can if anything is going to slip. Estimates are estimates, not guarantees, and they assume your content and feedback arrive when expected.
9. Who owns what
Once you have paid in full, the finished work is yours — the design, the pages, and the code I wrote for you. You own your domain and your accounts, always. I keep ownership of any general-purpose tools, libraries, or components I built beforehand and reused on your project; you get a permanent licence to keep using them as part of your site. Third-party software keeps its own licence.
10. Third-party services and costs
Some things cost money that does not go to me — domain registration, premium hosting tiers, stock photography, fonts, and paid APIs. I will tell you before anything like that is needed. Those services have their own terms and their own uptime, and I am not responsible for outages or changes on their end.
11. Your content
You confirm that you have the right to use the text, images, logos, and other material you give me. If a rights holder objects to something you supplied, that is your responsibility, not mine.
12. Showing the work
I may show finished work in my portfolio and on social media. If your project is confidential, just tell me and I will keep it off both — no argument, no extra charge.
13. Confidentiality
Anything you share with me that is not public — business plans, customer data, credentials, pricing — stays private. I do not share it and I do not use it for anything other than your project.
14. Cancelling
You can cancel at any time. You pay for the work completed up to that point, and any deposit covering work already done is non-refundable. If I have not started, you get your deposit back in full. If I cannot finish a project for my own reasons, I will refund anything you have paid for work I did not deliver.
15. What I do and do not promise
I will build your project with care and fix genuine faults in my own work free of charge for 30 days after launch. What I cannot promise is a specific business outcome — I do not guarantee traffic, sales, search rankings, or revenue. My total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid me for that project. I am not liable for indirect losses such as lost profit or lost data.
16. Accessibility
Every site I build is checked against the WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines using axe DevTools before it goes live, and I fix what that check finds. Two honest caveats: automated tools catch roughly a third to a half of real accessibility issues, so a clean scan is a floor and not a certificate; and once you start editing content yourself, keeping it accessible — image descriptions, heading order, link wording — is on you. If you need a formal audit or a legal conformance statement, say so up front and I will quote that as its own piece of work.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States. If something goes wrong, I would much rather talk it through first — reach out and we will sort it out.
18. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. The version in force for your project is the one published when you agreed to the work, and changes are never applied retroactively.
